Thinking about leaving your office job?

Hi again, this time I want to talk to you about the perks and downsides of working for somebody else remotely or choosing to build your own business.

**disclaimer: although some of the things listed here can apply to both a nomad and a non-nomad person, this is intended for someone looking into the Digital Nomad lifestyle.

Let’s get started.

Perks or downsides?

1. Working from anywhere

When working remotely you must check that your employer gives you the freedom of working from anywhere in the world, some companies won’t allow this, it could be because of the time zone most of the times.

PERK: Remote job, Own Boss

2. Managing your time

You can choose when to get the job done, wake up whenever you want, be a night owl if that suits you, spend more time with your family, etc.

Keep in mind that this could be a double-edge sword, you may ask why? Well, because if you don’t know how to do it right you might end up working less than you should and not being as productive, or you could go the other side and over work, in this case you will not enjoy much free time.

DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD: Remote job, Own Boss

3. Stability

When working for someone else you know that you have money by the end of the month, this kind of gives financial stability.

PERK: Remote job

DOWNSIDE: Own Boss

4. You’re responsible for your earnings

Although you’re not receiving a paycheck at the end of the month you can earn as much or as less as you want, you’re not limited by what your employer decides.

PERK: Own Boss

5. Commuting time

Who wants to skip commuting time? Me of course! Being on a bus, train or whatever you use to get to your workplace for several hours a day it’s exhausting and ridiculous, that’s time you could actually use to do things you actually enjoy doing.

PERK (definitely!): Remote job, Own Boss

6. Owner of your decisions

When you’re the boss, no one can tell you what to do, but keep in mind that with more freedom comes more responsibility.

PERK: Own Boss

7. More effort to get started

When you’re getting started with your own business, you will have to put in more effort, late nights and early mornings are common amongst entrepreneurs, because it is more about trial an error till you get it right. It could be hard and it is important to have the right mindset and break the limiting beliefs that will keep you from achieving your goals.
